we are toying with the idea of getting involved in covering junior sports and like to get some feedback.
If you got kids in to sports please post your opinion and tell other parents to do so.
Thanks.

Just posting an email sent to us by DEDE regarding this.

I REALLY THINK KIDS BENEFIT FROM COVERAGE, BUT THERE SHOULD BE EQUAL EXCITEMENT OVER SPORTS FOR BOTH SEXES. AS A FORMER SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL, SOCCER AND TRACK & FIELD COACH, EVEN BEING PHOTOGRAPHED REALLY EXCITED THE KIDS AND INCREASED THEIR TEAM SPIRIT. COVERAGE ALSO BRINGS A POSITIVE AWARENESS TO HEALTHY ACTIVITIES AND DETRACTS FROM ALL THE NEGATIVE MESSAGES ABOUT YOUTH.

I think it's a great idea! Kid's sports only gets coverage in the print media during the playoffs but the real stories happen during the season.

When I was 9, 10 & 11, the only place the standings were posted was at the rink. Nothing existed outside that environment to show that my team existed or that during my first season, my team won the championship. That meant that no one could comment on my team sponsor's name, "Drug World" either.

Anyway, covering kid's sports means that the parent's digitial photos and video can also be posted for a more interactive experience all round. And you could do interviews of the kids, which is always fun, and give them a voice and a place to go to check out what their neighbors are doing, what place their high school is in. The topic is kid's sports but the high schools get no coverage either. A pity because it was in high school that I saw some terrific games.

You could even enlist some high schoolers to cover theirs or their school leagues. That would do so much for Toronto and set the example for the rest of the country.

I think TN24 should go for it and leave traditional media to ask...."Wha' happened?"
